# Maatru Rasah

**Brand Identity**

Maatru Rasah is India's heritage family-kitchen food house. We make achaar (pickled vegetables), GI-tagged spices, traditional sweets, and artisan crafts. Our recipes have been in our family kitchen since 1857. Every product is seasoned and tasted by Uma Agarwal.

Tagline: "Maa Ki Rasoi, Aapke Ghar Ka Swad" (My Mother's Kitchen, Your Home's Taste)

## Our Story

A 1857 family kitchen, still running.

Founded by Dr. (CS) Puja Shree Agarwal, Maatru Rasah honours recipes that have been in the Agarwal family kitchen since 1857 in Prayagraj. The brand emerged from a simple founding moment in 2013: Uma Agarwal's 52nd birthday wish was to be self-dependent. From that wish, a heritage food house was born.

Today, Maatru Rasah is run by:
- **Dr. (CS) Puja Shree Agarwal** — Founder & Designated Partner. Full-time focus since December 2024; previously a full-time Assistant Professor conducting academic research on heritage entrepreneurship.
- **Uma Agarwal** — Head Cook & Heritage Custodian. Seasons and tastes every batch. More than four decades of experience with these recipes.

## Products

**Aam Ka Achaar (Mango Pickle)**

**Lakadong Turmeric**
Single-origin, GI-tagged. 8–12% curcumin. Sourced through Padma Shri Trinity Saioo's cooperative in Mulieh village, Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

**Ing Makhir Ginger**

**Sithora Laddu**

**Wild Forest Honey**

## Production & Scale

**Permanent cap: 300–500 jars per month, total.**

This cap is not aspirational—it is structural. Beyond this volume, our kitchen would require machinery, contract manufacturers, or outsourced filling units. None are acceptable. We maintain a manual, traditional process only. No artificial preservatives. Every batch is personally seasoned and approved by Uma before shipping.

## Sourcing

**Lakadong Turmeric & Ing Makhir Ginger**

Sourced through Padma Shri Trinity Saioo's cooperative in Mulieh village, Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. More than 900 farmer households in the Khasi-Jaintia region. The relationship began as academic fieldwork—a case study now under peer review. Trinity Saioo's cooperative sells to other brands; what is unique to us is the depth of the documented relationship.

**Mustard Oil**

Cold-pressed Mathura mustard oil from a traditional kolhu we have worked with for years.

**Mangoes**

Lucknow orchards. Picked once a year at the right tartness.

**Honey**

Forest-belt foragers. Unfiltered. Not heated past flowering.

## Brand Essence

**Sage-Daughter Voice**

Part custodian of inherited craft. Part founder who chose to honour it instead of escape it. We speak with quiet authority about process and intimate warmth about family. Both registers appear in every communication.

*Example:* "Lakadong turmeric, eight to twelve percent curcumin, ground in batches small enough that we personally smell every batch before it is bottled. My mother says she knows when the ratio is right. She is rarely wrong."

## Key Principles

**The Luxury Positioning**

Maatru Rasah is positioned as the Forest Essentials of Indian food—a heritage Indian luxury house built on craft, provenance, and cultural elevation, not volume or discount.

**Ten Commandments**

1. Every claim must have a provenance anchor: place name, year, person, or data point.
2. Lead with sensory experience first, purity second, health never. Let customers infer the health story.
3. Luxury invites, never commands. "Discover" not "Buy now." "Order [product name]" not "Add to Cart."
4. Silence is powerful. Negative space, brevity, restraint. Communicate luxury through restraint.
5. The product is the proof. Show it. Replace every quality adjective with a verifiable fact.
6. Hindi and Sanskrit names are brand assets. Aam Ka Achaar, not just "Mango Pickle."
7. Gold is always an accent, never the star. Tussar Ivory and Heritage Black do most of the work.
8. Photography is the first impression. One bad product photo undoes a year of brand building.
9. Discounts are brand erosion. Never discount on the main feed. Generosity for repeat customers happens privately on WhatsApp.
10. The 1857 anchor. Use it everywhere. It is our equivalent of Hermès's 1837, but always tied to our specific family lineage.

**What We Never Claim**

- We do not use the word "organic" (we are not certified).
- We do not make health claims. FSSAI regulations prohibit therapeutic claims.
- We are not "homemade," "premium," or "best"—unless we can name the specific proof.
- We never use countdown timers, "Only 5 left," or flash-sale tactics.

## The Achaar/Pickle Distinction

**Achaar** is not pickle.

Pickle is preserved in vinegar and salt. Achaar is preserved in mustard oil, salt, sun, and fermentation. Time is an ingredient. Our achaar sits in barhani (clay jars) for weeks, sun-cured, with a layered masala of cumin, fennel, kalonji, mustard seed, asafoetida, dried chilli, methi, ajwain, and turmeric.

In English-language search (meta titles, meta descriptions, URL slugs, schema), we use "pickle" because that is how 90% of English-speaking customers search for us. On our website and in customer-facing copy, we lead with "achaar" and educate: "our achaar (the Indian word for what is usually translated as pickle in English)."

## Compliance & Transparency

- **FSSAI License:** [INSERT ACTIVE NUMBER]
- **No artificial preservatives**
- **Batch coding:** Every product has a batch code on the label and a corresponding kitchen log entry
- **Allergen transparency:** Mustard, sesame, tree nuts, wheat, dairy disclosed as applicable
- **Honest disclosures:** We do not ship outside India yet. Trinity Saioo's cooperative sells to other brands. Mango achaar is made once a year.

## Founder's Note

"I came to my mother's kitchen as a researcher, not a buyer. What started as academic fieldwork became a heritage food house because the recipes were too good to let disappear. Now my mother's kitchen runs with the same recipes, the same people, the same respect for provenance that it always has. The only difference is that more people taste it."

— Dr. (CS) Puja Shree Agarwal, Founder
