Ancient Wisdom, Modern Nutrition
Thus, in 1857, at Prayagraj, which is known for being holy, our Great-Great Grandmother established Sithora for New Mothers living in that area. Since she resided close to Sangam, she was aware of Ayurvedic practices and made use of spices and dry fruits available there to develop Sithora. My grandmother’s recipe was carried down through four generations of women in my family. She made Sithora for all the young moms in our relatives. My mom has also continued the legacy, and now I am taking the tradition to the contemporary mom. When I shifted to Delhi NCR in 2018, I observed that health-conscious friends were finding it hard to locate homemade Indian sweets that do not contain refined sugar. While regular "mithai" sweet shops were serving energy-rich sweets chock-full of sugar, health food shops were selling their energy balls at an exorbitant price. None of them were remotely "Indian."
And that’s when I realized: our family recipe wasn’t just for us; it was to be shared.
This isn't a recreated or modified recipe. Our Sithora follows the exact proportions and traditional methods documented in our family records from 1857. Each ingredient serves a specific Ayurvedic purpose, and the cooking process follows time-tested techniques that maximize nutrient retention and flavor development.
We never mass-produce. Each batch of Sithora is handcrafted by trained family members who understand the nuances of roasting dry fruits to perfection, tempering spices for optimal flavor, and achieving the ideal ladoo texture. This artisanal approach ensures every piece meets our exacting standards.

Here are some common questions about Sithora.
Sithora is a traditional winter ladoo preparation from Prayagraj that has been made only for the purpose of postpartum nourishment as well as the boost of immunity. Unlike the normal besan or rava ladoos which make use of refined sugar as the sweetener, the Sithora ladoo has jaggery as the sweetener along with high-class dry fruits and medicinal spice like Lakadong turmeric and Ing Makhir ginger along with ghee.
While Sithora uses jaggery, which has a low glycemic index compared to white sugar, the product still has natural sugars in it. It is recommended that people with diabetes consult their doctor prior to consuming the product. If cleared, they should eat only half of the ladoo and check the reaction on the sugar level.
Yes, Sithora is safe during pregnancy and even helpful in the last trimester. The warming spices and nutritional content help the body prepare for childbirth. However, we would advise consulting a gynecologist if one has gestational diabetes or certain dietary restrictions. More commonly used after childbirth.
For postpartum moms: 2 ladoos each day (morning & evening)
For overall health, consume 1 ladoo everyday or 3-4 times a week.
For children (2+ years): Half to one ladoo as an occasional treat.
Every laddduu is approximately 150 to 180 calories with immense nutritional values.
Our pricing is based on real quality: small batches made by hand, best ingredients (actual Lakadong turmeric is 5x more costly than normal turmeric; home-made A2 ghee; home-made organic jaggery; best dry fruits available); no preservatives to justify fresh preparation; and centuries-old processes that actually take longer. We aren't competing in the market of factory-made mithai.
Yes! We deliver to all major areas including South Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. Orders are delivered within 3-5 business days, prepared fresh after your order is placed. We use temperature-controlled packaging to maintain quality during transit.
Lakadong turmeric: This is found in the Meghalaya state in the Jaintia Hills. Its curcumin content is 7-9%, as opposed to 2-3% in ordinary turmeric.
Ing Makhir / Ginger: The native variety of Meghalaya, known and celebrated for its strong warming component and better digestion properties. All the above ingredients are very costly and used in Ayurvedic medicines.
While Sithora is traditionally a winter food due to its warming nature (ginger, ghee), it can be consumed in summer in moderation. Limit to 2-3 times weekly, consume in morning hours, and pair with cooling foods like coconut water. Store refrigerated during hot months and bring to room temperature before eating.
Sithora is nutrient-dense and calorie-rich (150-180 calories per ladoo), designed for nourishment rather than weight loss. However, it can replace unhealthy desserts in a balanced diet. The healthy fats, protein, and fiber provide satiety, potentially reducing overall snacking. Best used as a controlled, nutritious treat rather than daily indulgence during active weight loss phases.
Absolutely! Sithora makes a thoughtful, traditional gift for new mothers. It's culturally appropriate, practically useful, and shows genuine care. We offer gift packaging options and can include a personalized message. Many Delhi NCR customers order Sithora for baby shower gifts, postpartum care packages, and traditional "godh bharai" ceremonies.
Absolutely not. Our Sithora contains zero preservatives (no sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate), no artificial colors, no synthetic flavors, and no stabilizers. The natural preservative properties come from ghee's saturation, jaggery's hygroscopic nature, and roasted dry fruits. This is why we have a 3-month shelf life versus 6-12 months for commercial products.
Yes! We handle bulk orders for weddings, corporate gifts, festival hampers, and special events. Minimum order 5kg for custom packaging. Contact us at least 2 weeks in advance for bulk orders to ensure preparation time. We offer special packaging and labeling for corporate clients across Delhi NCR.
While all are traditional postpartum foods:
Sithora: Dry fruit-based, jaggery-sweetened, includes turmeric and ginger, smoother texture
Panjiri: Whole wheat flour-based, drier consistency, includes edible gum (gond)
Gond Ladoo: Primarily features edible gum (gond), very warming, heavier texture
Sithora is lighter, more nut-forward, and suitable for longer consumption periods (not just 40 days postpartum).
